The pictures you see here do not really do justice to the experience of actually being there in person.
One of the most amazing sights in a neighborhood a few miles
down the highway from mine. This is a large shrimp trawling
boat that floated into a subdivision and came to rest in the
middle of a residential street! It was used as a backdrop on a
local news show and has been seen on national television.
A scene from the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, one of the
hardest hit areas of all. (About 4 miles from my house.) Notice
the truck, upside-down, and under the house on the left!
A house in Lexington Place, one of the nicer subdivisions of St.
Bernard Parish. (Also about 4 miles from my house, in the
opposite direction.) The entire brick house, concrete
foundation and all, uprooted and floated out into the street!
Same here. Same subdivision, different street. This entire house
floated about one-half block down the street and settled in
someone else's front yard against the front of their house!
This was a common sight after Katrina. I saw numerous cars and
trucks, and even one large motorhome, in similar positions. The
heavy engines weighed down the front ends of vehicles while
the rear ends floated.
A house around the corner from mine. I saw a number of houses
around New Orleans where people expressed their frustration
with this exclamation.
Some people managed to maintain a sense of humor
through all the senselessness.
If you can't read it, it says,
"Blunderence!! Looters Welcome"
